Styles : ELECTRO BREAKS BASS FREESTYLE BIOGRAPHY
Growing up on freestyle classics like “Running” and with 2 Live Crew
right in her backyard, Laura D was molded at an early age by nothing
but bass.
It was no surprise that in 1995, she was instantly hooked on
underground break beats when she was exposed to the likes of Bruce Wilcox
and Simply Jeff. Laura D quickly developed strong relationships in the
Miami underground scene and, over time, two local underground DJ’s,
Wendel and Kaprah, became her mentors and helped pave the way to the
turntables. After DJing as a hobby for over 5 years, established
electro artists Ashrock and Merlyn (Kuad Records) suggested that she
move her rapidly expanding skill set from the bedroom to the
discotheques. Following their advice, Laura D landed residencies at
Jade Night Club in South Beach and Players in Downtown Miami, where she
quickly earned recognition for bringing the “D” to the dancefloor by
providing the bassbeats to the masses. Now, the rest is history.
Opening for major acts such as Hydraulix, Merlyn, Icey and Baby Anne, Laura D has continued to solidify her position in the underground scene
in South Florida since and today makes a mark in the underground electronic music scene.
Laura D is currently working on establishing a community of female
artists known as the Geishaz. Stay tuned… “Looking to destroy a town
near you”….
